The ancient Monastery of St. Catherine, the beautiful National Park of Ras Mohammed & plenty of Red Sea facilities, are waiting for YOU!

Geography:

The resurrection of Sinai took place 20 million years ago. With enormous tectonic power, Africa and Asia were separated into two continents. Between them however, remained 60.000 m2 of land, The Sinai Peninsula.

Sinai's origin has characterized its picturesque landscape of arid desert and the mystic beauty of the rugged mountains between the shallow Gulf of Suez and the deep Gulf of Aquaba.

The most dominant and breathtaking scenery of South Sinai, is the wilderness of mountains consisting in granite walls, rich with minerals that reflects different colors at each passing hour of the day.

This fascinating Sinai is more than mountain and desert. Where the coastlines meet at the very south point of Ras Mohammed, a whole new world begins; The underwater world of the Red Sea.

History:

Sinai's history brings us way back in time, to the high developed civilization of The Ancient Egyptians. During the time when the rest of the world was in the "Stone Age", the Egyptians had a sophisticated agriculture system, mined gold, discovered and treated diabetes, performed brain surgeries, cut granite with mystifying precision and built the pyramids.

At the head of this sacred part of their land, the Pharaohs appointed the goddess Hathor. Since their days, armies have used this strategic peninsula as a bridge between Asia and Africa. The northern Sinai desert was crossed by Egypt's King Thutmose III to attack Palestine and Syria in the 15th century B.C., and was crossed again in 1967 by Israeli tanks heading the opposite direction.

Alexander The Great marched through Sinai in 332 B.C. to conquer Egypt, so did Amr Ibn El As in 639 to bring Islam to Africa. Also the Turkish Sultan Selim crossed in 1517 to make Egypt a part of the Ottoman Empire. And Napoleon made his way through as well in 1799 during his adventures in the Middle East.

The books of God will tell us that it was also in Sinai that God revealed Himself to Moses in the miracle of "The Burning Bush" and ordered him to return to Egypt, and bring the Children of Israel to Mount Horeb. Today some remaining sights of history can still be visited.

Biology:

Sinai accommodates animals, Bedouins and thousands of guests every year. The nature of Sinai offers the simple beauty of its rough and in the same time so fragile nature.

Camels, goats, storks, eagles and foxes are among the species that shares the Spartan supplies of the desert. The few existing trees, grass and herbs are essential for the animals and therefor the Bedouins to survive. Organizations like "SINAI WILD LIFE" are helping us visitors as well as local guides, to understand how we can enjoy and retain this fascinating nature.

Please do not litter any kind of garbage in the nature!!!

The Red Sea teems with life. Corals, sea anemones, sponges and sea urchins are but a few of the inhabitants. Dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays and sharks are also to be found here. Each season has its special gifts.

Coral reefs are one of nature's masterpieces, the process of a reef building up is long but rewarding. Fish and sea vegetation seek their homes among the corals and live together in symbiotic harmony.

The Red Sea is considered to be one of the world's most beautiful snorkeling and diving spots. Help us keep it. Look, but do not touch!!! A broken coral branch takes years to repair and souvenirs like coral and shells are illegal.
